Meet the founder

Meera K Tanikella, LMFT

As an educator and licensed therapist in California, Meera (Kali) brings over a decade of experience in the mental health field. Her work spans clinical practice, teaching, and research, all rooted in a deep commitment to compassionate, evidence-informed care. Through Satva Therapy, she supports clients in making lasting, meaningful change in their lives.

Kali works with individuals, couples and families to address anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and the lingering effects of past wounds. Her office is located in Santa Clara, just steps from Santa Clara University.

Kali’s approach is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS), a gentle and respectful way of understanding the different ‘parts’ within each person. She thoughtfully integrates mindfulness, MBCT, attachment-based therapy and EMDR Flash Technique to meet each client’s unique needs. Her work supports clients in moving from survival mode into deeper self-trust, connection, and healing.

Frequently asked questions

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. This allows us to offer therapy that is tailored to your unique needs, rather than being limited by the constraints of insurance-approved modalities. Working outside the insurance system gives us the flexibility to integrate approaches that support deeper, more lasting change.

What issues do you commonly work with?

I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, and stress. I also support individuals dealing with family conflict, parenting, mood disorders, and major life transitions.

For a full list of specialties and areas of focus, you can visit my Psychology Today profile.

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you in, what you’re hoping for, and begin to explore how we might work together. It’s also a space for you to ask any questions you may have.

Do you offer a sliding scale for fees?

We have a limited number of sliding scale slots available to increase accessibility to therapy. These are offered based on financial need. Please inquire about availability if you’re experiencing financial hardship.

Do you charge for cancellations or missed appointments?

We understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. Appointments missed or canceled with less notice may be subject to a fee.

In their words.

Working with Kali has been transformative. I started therapy to address some relationship issues, but our sessions helped me uncover and heal from past traumas I didn't even realize were affecting me.

MK

Coming from a traditional Asian family, talking about mental health was difficult. Kali got that. She helped me navigate cultural baggage and my own needs. It's still a work in progress, but I'm learning to set boundaries.

LS

As a couple, we were on the brink of separation when we started therapy with Kali. It wasn't an easy journey, but Kali's guidance helped us improve our communication and rediscover our connection.

GH

As someone who was initially resistant to the idea of spirituality in therapy, I was surprised by how Kali's subtle integration of these concepts resonated with me. She never pushed it, but offered different perspectives that I found unexpectedly helpful in my healing process.

LA

I was a bit lost when I first came to Kali. Wasn't sure what I needed, just knew something had to change. She didn't promise quick fixes, which I appreciated. It's been a slow process, but I'm learning to be kinder to myself.

DR

Before starting therapy with Kali, I didn’t fully understand how much I was carrying. She created a space where I felt safe enough to be honest — even when it was uncomfortable.
